Mission
Give everyone the opportunity to learn to read
We are at a point in history where access to a basic education is universally recognized as a human right. Literacy is the foundation for all learning and everyone who wants to learn to read should have access to the opportunity to do so. In an effort to step in where governments and societies have not, Curious Learning is committed to partnering to help build open solutions that anyone can use to learn to read.
Empower others
We will not dictate what others should do. We work to empower partners and users with the resources and tools to activate their own learning and engagement, from the individual child that wants to learn to read, the parent that wants more for their child, to the teacher striving to help many, the NGO working with a community, the governmental or aid organization working on policy and large scale deployments, etc. The act of engaging others with this opportunity to learn makes the sheer size of the undertaking tractable and empowers others across many levels of a global ecosystem.
Focus on the learner
There are many stakeholders in the education process. Our focus is getting tools in the hands of the individual who is learning to read regardless of where in the world that learner happens to be. While our focus is on reaching children, all learners worldwide are of equal importance. When we are faced with a trade-off of serving the learner or another stakeholder we will choose the learner.
Collaborate instead of compete
If there is a solution for a particular need that is free and openly available we will cultivate the flexibility to integrate with existing solutions to add to the larger ecosystem. Existing modules or software is a testimony to an active community with whom we should engage.
Constantly measure effectiveness
Data collection is an important part of our work as it provides an objective measure of our effectiveness and facilitates research. Together the data and research create a positive cycle of constant improvement.
Only exist as long as needed
It is very rare for a literate parent to raise an illiterate child. If a whole generation can become literate, we can inoculate the planet against illiteracy. If we are successful, we will have helped create a world where Curious Learning is no longer needed. So on a regular basis, we should ask ourselves, is there a need for Curious Learning to continue?
